Get the Look - Modern Geisha

Okay we’ll admit it, Beautycouture.ie adore the film Memoirs of Geisha and we’ll also admit to watching it over and over to drool at the gorge clothes, makeup, sets and of course the beauty of japan.

So we’re over the mood to hear that the ‘Modern Geisha’ look was trending on the A/W 12 catwalks in the hair stakes!

If you’ve never seen the movie, then we suggest you do, as it’s a treat for the senses. The actresses sport the most amazing hairdos full of beautiful adornments like embellished combs, slides and gems.

Of course the real thing would be pretty hard to pull off, but what we love about the modern take, is that it brings the look closer within the reach of the DIY realm.  The look is a tighter-than-tight up do, with a quirky twist. All teamed with immaculately applied red lips.  

 

Sported at the Zac Posen show, we get the tops tips on just how to pull off this exotic hairdo from the man who created the look, Luigi Murenu.

Step 1 - John Frieda® Luxurious Volume Thickening Mousse was brushed through dry hair and power blasted with a hair dryer to build texture and ensure lasting hold.

 

Step 2 - John Frieda® Frizz-Ease® Hair Serum Original Formula was then applied to hair to ensure a super smooth, super shiny base, before being tied up in a taught ponytail and rolled into a chignon with the ends left loose.

 

Step 3 - The base of the chignon was wrapped in duct tape for a Samurai twist.

 

Step 4 -The remaining ends that were left out were then ironed with straighteners, sealed with another slick of John Frieda® Frizz-Ease® Hair Serum Original Formula and positioned in an upright position for a modern Geisha feel.

 

Step 5 - Once the style was securely in place, the look was sealed with a liberal spritz of John Frieda® Luxurious Volume Thickening Hairspray.
