Moroccanoil at Zeba - Probably the best blow dry in the world

By: Niamh, April 19

Last week I experienced what was probably the best blow dry I’ve ever had. Yes, I am aware that it might be a bit of an outlandish statement, but as one who frequents the hairdresser often, I know a good blow dry when I get one and this was nothing short of spectacular!

So where did I encounter this heavenly hair delight you might ask? It was in Zeba on South William Street, Dublin. If you’ve never heard of Zeba then hold on to your hats because this place is seriously good. It has won the Global Business Salon Award three times; they have also entered the Irish Hall of Fame for Hair Salons. But despite all the success, you won’t find a snooty Toni & Guy, ‘we’re-so-uber-trendy-it-hurts’, attitude here.  Instead it feels like your local salon and the welcome is very warm. Plus Zeba is now a one-stop beauty shop; thanks to the fabulous Mr Ken Boylan who now operates from the basement, as well as the fantastic Elaine Cawley’s Beauty Suite, which means you can get everything from hair to make up and nails to facials all under the one roof. But more about Ken and Elaine later.

So onto the blow dry. And before I begin I need to preface it with this; one of my major pet hates is hairdressers’ basins. Yes I know its porcelain and it ain’t soft, but there is nothing worse than having your neck cranked into the world’s most uncomfortable position while a junior reefs the very hair from your head with scalding water while asking ‘are you off anywhere nice on your holidays?’ It’s hideous. Thankfully I found none of this in Zeba. The chair at the basin was not only comfortable, but it was raised up so that for the first time ever, my neck was not crunched into the porcelain leaving me with whiplash. Not only that, but my hair was washed gently and effectively with no hair pulling and as an added bonus the lovely girl washing my hair actually chatted to me very knowledgably about the hair products she was using. It was the most refreshing basin encounter I’d ever had.

The aforementioned product she used was Moroccanoil. Moroccan-what? Moroccanoil. If you’ve never heard of it don’t worry, its brand new to Ireland and is set to become your new best hair friend – I kid you not. Don’t be put off by the word oil, as many of you know my hair tends to be of the oily type and this stuff didn’t leave a morsel of grease. The Moroccanoil range is infused with Argan Oil which comes from the southwest region of Morocco – hence the name! The oil is surprisingly ultra-light and is absorbed in seconds with no residue. It can be applied to damp or dry hair and should be massaged in fully until absorbed. Then dry and style as normal. It also cuts drying time by an average of 30 %!

The oil has many benefits – it is meant to restore shine, soften unruly hair, build strength and enrich damaged hair. They also claim that hair is left looking shiner and healthier after just one application... cue copious amounts of scepticism. But the result was nothing short of amazing. I don’t think my hair has been this soft since I was 10. Soft, shiny and smooth; a complete delight. This stuff is the miracle hair formula I’ve been waiting for, it’s an elixir which I plan to use regularly for my barnett. Add to all that the handiwork of Stephen Kelly who gave me a wonderful blow dry... so much so that I was channelling my inner 80s Timotei girl when I left the salon.

The Moroccanoil range is available exclusively at Zeba and includes intensive treatments and glimmer spray. A 100ml bottle of the oil is €37.50 and will last for months.
