Beautycouture.ie recently followed in the footsteps of Jedward and members of the Irish Rugby team by embracing the benefits of Seaweed at the VOYA spa in Strandhill.
The Seaweed baths have been a tradition in Ireland for hundreds of years and it seems that now this uber natural therapy is back in vogue in a big way. With nothing artificial and simply warm water and seaweed, the treatment is packed with a rake of benefits as long as your arm. So of course we had to go and see what all the full was about.
On a very windy day, we arrived in Strandhill with plenty of aches and pains after a weekend of activity like horse-riding and surfing, so the idea of melting away in a warm bath for an hour sounded like heaven. Of course the idea of it being filled with Seaweed was not quite as appealing.
On arrival we were lead into the double bathing room, which consisted of two large baths and a small steam room. The baths were filled with warm water and lots of green seaweed. After a quick go in the steam room to open the pores, it was into the baths to embrace our inner mermaid. A few squeals of horror over the seaweed which was incredibly slimy, I bit the bullet and slid into the bath.

After the initial hilarity of putting the seaweed on our heads and making lots of jokes about creatures from the sea, we began to let the soothing warm water, now full of the natural oils of the seaweed, sooth and moisturise our skin and hair. As well as having pucks of natural anti-ageing and anti-cellulite properties, the natural oils from the seaweed are also fantastic for the hair… sort of like a mini salon-style treatment!
After an hour of bliss we emerged from the baths following the advice of the staff we didn’t shower, instead we left the precious seaweed oils on our skin to do their job.
A real treat for the body and the skin, this is an irish spa treat that’s a must visit for beauty junkies.
A Single Bath 50mins will set you back €25, while the Double Bathing room 50mins is €50
