By: Niamh, 16 May 2013
After a bit of a hiatus our interview Thursday is back with a bang! If you’re an up an coming entrepreneur, writer, musician, artists, designer, personality, model, etc and want to be featured on Beautycouture.ie’s Interview Thursday then just send us a mail!
So to welcome back Interview Thursday we chat the lovely Paula Cuddihy founder of Urbana, Ireland’s leading hair removal clinic about her top treatment secrets, the biggest hair removal mistakes and what 3 items she’d bring with her on a dessert Island!
Paula tell us a little about the Urbana.
Urbana is a dedicated hair removal clinic, specialising in laser hair removal and waxing treatments for both male and female clients. Our philosophy is to offer each and every one of our clients the highest quality treatments possible and ensure that results that are noticeable. We’ve built an excellent team of highly qualified staff who are passionate about their job and acutely aware of the latest developments in hair removal. We have invested in the best medical grade lasers and the most advanced hair removal technology to ensure people get the best results in the safest possible way. We now perform over 1000 laser treatments a week in our Dublin clinic and opened a new clinic in Drogheda in April 2013.
What’s the secret to your success?
My partner Paul! He is my business partner and together we run Urbana. Paul is a huge asset to the business and looks after the behind-the-scenes techie stuff so I can continue doing what I love – dealing with customers. I am very fortunate to have a great team of therapists working with me, most of whom have been with me for over 3 years. They are as passionate about achieving results as I am and work hard to achieve them.
I truly believe in what I do, Laser Hair Removal is a treatment that really works and you can see the difference it makes to people’s lives when they get rid of excess hair that they felt really conscious about. The difference in their self-confidence is nothing short of amazing and is what drives me every day.
What’s the most popular treatment with your clients at the moment?
Our combination of underarm and Brazilian/Hollywood Bikini line laser treatment, which is really affordable with the Urbana loyalty card.
Are you seeing more men come in for treatments?
Definitely in the last 2 years there has been a big increase in the amount of men we see in our clinics. Men dislike hair just as much as us girls so I think it’s great if they feel self-conscious about having excess hair they are doing something about it.
How would you describe your personal style?
During the day casual, skinny jeans, leather jacket and T shirts (mostly from All Saints, I’m a diehard fan!) When I’m going out I like to wear dresses or skirts, a little bit of sparkle is good but nothing over the top.
Heels or flats?
Favourite high street haunts?
All Saints, Maje, Topshop, Zara
Top beauty essential you’d never leave home without?
Burts Bees Lip Balm.
What’s the biggest hair removal mistake you think Irish women tend to make?
Ingrown hairs are a huge problem especially on the bikini line area. Exfoliation is key to get rid of these hairs but finding the balance between exfoliating too much or not enough is hard to find. Too much is just as bad as not enough, it’s a fine line that if crossed can have some serious repercussions on how your skins looks and feels.
If you are prone to ingrown hairs light exfoliation done every 2-3 days with some exfoliating mitts should be enough to keep them at bay, it is also really important to moisturize the area soon AFTER to stop the skin from drying out too much. If your ingrown hairs are really bad you may need a topical product containing salicylic acid to help further exfoliate the area, applying moisturiser after using this product is also essential. Laser hair removal will solve this issue completely so we would always recommend a course of treatment if this is an issue that is affecting someone.
What are the 3 things you’d bring with you on a desert island?
My Phone, A Pillow, A picture of my little boy, Milo.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
An artist or a hairdresser, I used to practice on my Barbie dolls, their lovely long blond locks didn’t last long before I let loose on them, I’d give them a Miley Cyrus cut after about a week!
