SWOPSHOP - Pimp your wardrobe

They say fashion is cyclical and no-where is that more evident than in SWOPSHOP in Temple Bar. Swop shopping is definitely chic once more and thriving in Ireland. You may remember we told you about Swapwith.me swop events a little while ago and if you liked the sound of that you are going to love SWOPSHOP
The old saying ‘everything old is new again’ is very much the mantra of this place, but really it’s more of a super chic and eclectic fashion exchange then some kind of tatty swop shop – all items to be swapped must be immaculate and fashionable. It’s a total Aladdin’s Cave of goodies and is the brainchild of Adele Geoghegan. The idea is that women everywhere, especially now in the recession, have trapped equity hanging in their wardrobes, so why not cash in on it? Basically people can upgrade their wardrobes by swapping up, like for like or even downgrading. SWOPSHOP then charge a small handling fee generally in and around €1-€30(maximum), but the average appears to be €8-€10.
So how does it work? Well simply bring in your unwanted fashion gems (laundered and ironed please!) and simply get swapping! You might walk in with a jacket from Karen Millen and leave with a frock from Louise Kennedy! The possibilities are literally endless and so much fun. Thankfully Penny’s and Dunnes items are banned because, let’s face it, they don’t really stand up to re-use!
